Corinne Schmidhauser (born May 30, 1964 in Zollikofen ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and former ski racer . In the second half of the 1980s she was one of the best slalom riders in the world; in the Ski World Cup she won four races and won the discipline ranking in the 1986/87 season . After completing her studies, she worked as a lawyer and sports official; she was also politically active at the cantonal and communal level.

Sports career

Schmidhauser first drew international attention at the age of 17 when she finished fourth in the giant slalom in Auron at the 1982 Junior World Championship , the first event of its kind, and narrowly missed a medal. In the 1982/83 season of the European Cup , she finished third in the overall ranking behind Christine von Grünigen and Brigitte Gadient . From 1983 she also gained experience in the World Cup . She took her first World Cup points on December 9, 1984 when she was seventh in the slalom in Davos . In the course of the 1984/85 season she was able to establish herself with several placements among the top ten at the extended world top in slalom, at the 1985 World Championships in Santa Caterina she was eighth.

In the following season 1985/86 Schmidhauser was able to improve again. On January 26, 1986 she achieved a podium finish for the first time with second place in the combined classification in Saint-Gervais . A few days later, at the slalom on February 9th in Vysoké Tatry , she achieved her first victory in a World Cup race. The 1986/87 season was Schmidhauser's most successful. She won in Park City , Flühli and Zwiesel ; there was also a second and a third place, with which she decided the discipline ranking in slalom for herself. On the other hand, she did not live up to her role as favorite at the 1987 World Cup in Crans-Montana and was eliminated in the first slalom run.

In the course of the 1987/88 season Schmidhauser could no longer quite build on the performance of the pre-winter season. Nevertheless, she was classified seven times in the top ten (including another podium). The 1988 Winter Olympics were disappointing , where she was eliminated in both slalom and giant slalom . After she had reached the World Cup points only twice in the 1988/89 season , she announced her retirement from top-class sport in March 1989. She made an exception in 1991 when she took part in the Winter Universiade in Sapporo , where she won gold in giant slalom and silver in slalom.

Profession and Politics

From 1990 Schmidhauser completed a law degree at the University of Bern and graduated in 1995 with a licentiate . During her studies she worked as an editor for the newspaper Der Bund and as a freelance journalist for Swiss television . Before and during the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Festival in Bern in 1996, she was head of media. In 1999 she was admitted to the bar and was then a partner in various law firms. In 2003 Schmidhauser also received the diploma as a mediator . In 2008 she co-founded the Antidoping Switzerland Foundation , which is responsible for doping controls and combating doping in Switzerland; since then she has been president. In addition, she is an arbitrator at the International Sports Court and member of the board of the Swiss Association for Sports Law .

Schmidhauser ran in September 2006 as a candidate for the Bernese FDP for the Grand Council elections, but was not elected. It was also unsuccessful in the 2007 National Council elections . On December 2 of the same year, however, she was elected to the municipal council of her community in Bremgarten near Bern ; since then she has been responsible for the finance department. After the early resignation of a member of the FDP councilor in April 2009, Schmidhauser moved up to the cantonal parliament. She ran for the 2011 National Council elections , but was not elected.

Schmidhauser is married and has two sons.
