At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary she was ahead in the giant slalom on February 24, 1988 after the first run with 0.30 seconds ahead of the German Christa Kinshofer (and 0.85 seconds on the “only” fifth-placed Swiss Vreni Schneider ), but ahead In the eyes of her brother Francisco, who was present as a TV commentator, she slipped away on the harder piste in the second run after another impressively dynamic start in the 13th gate on the inner ski.
The greatest success of her career was at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , when she won the bronze medal in slalom. This was only the second and so far last Olympic medal for Spain in alpine competitions. After the 1991/92 season, she ended her career.
On July 18, 1991, she married the Italian Danielle Fioretto, who was technical director and coach of the Spanish national team at the time, in the monastery of El Escorial ; the marriage was divorced in 1994. Ochoa later married the diving instructor David Fresneda, with whom she had two children, a daughter (* 1999) and a son (* 2000); this marriage ended in divorce in 2007. The two children live with their father. Ochoa last lived with her sister and brother-in-law.
