Silvano Meli (born August 11, 1960 ) is a former Swiss ski racer . He specialized in runs and combinations .
biography
Melis international career began in late 1977. On February 11, 1978, he won the first World Cup points by finishing tenth on the downhill from Les Houches . Also in 1978 he won the Swiss championship title in the downhill and the downhill classification of the European Cup . In the following years Meli established himself in the midfield, but it was not enough for the absolute top of the world.
His most successful World Cup season was 1982/83 : First he was fourth on the Hahnenkamm Downhill in Kitzbühel . Two weeks later, on February 5, 1983, he achieved his best result ever , finishing second on the downhill in St. Anton . He contested the last World Cup race in March 1986. Due to the strong competition within the team, Meli was never able to qualify for the Winter Olympics. His best result at world championships is a 21st place combination in 1982.
Since his resignation in 1986, Meli has been active in the helicopter transport sector and is the director of Héli-Chablais . In December 2003 he was involved in an accident when he fell on the mountain Les Diablerets and was seriously injured; one of the three passengers was killed. In 2006 he was elected to the Leysin municipal parliament.
