Liisa Savijarvi (born December 29, 1963 in Bracebridge , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ski racer .
biography
Savijarvi achieved her first top results in the 1983/84 season when she reached 3rd place in the giant slalom and 4th place in the Alpine Combined in Megève .
As a specialist in the fast disciplines, Liisa Savijarvi celebrated her first (and only) World Cup victory on March 2, 1986 with the start number 34 in the Super-G of Furano (JAP). Already in the descent from Bad Gastein on January 10th, she had started with start no. 22 moved up to second place, just 0.33 seconds behind the Austrian Katharina Gutensohn . At the end of the 1985/86 season, after another third place in Vail on March 16, she was second in the Super G World Cup (with 56 points behind Marina Kiehl with 75) and fifth with 65 points (winner Maria Walliser : 115) in the Downhill World Cup.
At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Savijarvi finished 9th in giant slalom , and at the 1985 Alpine World Ski Championships in Santa Caterina she was tenth in giant slalom.
A serious knee injury forced her to resign in 1987. Liisa Savijarvi, whose parents come from Finland , won three Canadian championship titles (giant slalom 1983, slalom 1983, downhill 1987). She lives in Toronto today .
