Olga Charvátová (born June 11, 1962 in Gottwaldov ) is a former Czechoslovak ski racer . Thanks to her versatility in all disciplines, she achieved podium places in the World Cup in the 1980s and celebrated two World Cup victories. At the 1984 Winter Olympics , she won the bronze medal in the downhill. Her daughter Klára Křížová also became a ski racer.

biography

Charvátová won the giant slalom of the Trofeo Topolino in her age group in 1976 , won the silver medal in the giant slalom at the 1977 European Junior Championships and the bronze medal in the slalom at the 1979 European Junior Championships . The then 15-year-old had already participated in the World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1978 and achieved ninth place in the combination as her best result. Her first points in the World Cup won Charvátová on December 12, 1978 with tenth place in the giant slalom of Piancavallo . In the next few years, more top 10 results in the World Cup followed, as well as victory in the slalom classification and second place in the overall classification of the European Cup in the 1979/80 season .

Her first of a total of 14 podium places in the World Cup reached Charvátová on January 3, 1982 in the slalom of Maribor . A month later she was fifth in combination and ninth in slalom at the 1982 World Cup in Schladming . She achieved her first World Cup victory on January 21, 1983 in the combination of the gold key race , which consisted of the slalom in Schruns and the descent in Megève . Charvátová had established himself at the top of the world and achieved in the 1982/83 season with eighth place overall for the first time a top 10 placement in the overall World Cup. She was able to improve constantly in this ranking, was seventh in 1983/84 , sixth in 1984/85 and finally fourth in the overall World Cup in her last season 1985/86 , whereby she was also in the top five in the slalom and giant slalom World Cup that winter, which she had already succeeded in the combination in the three previous seasons. She had to wait three years for her second - and last - World Cup victory. On February 4, 1986, she won the slalom in Piancavallo .

At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Charvátová almost managed to surprise in downhill skiing. Until shortly before the end she was clearly on the gold course, before she failed to jump to the finish and had to be modest with third place (behind the Swiss Michela Figini and Maria Walliser ) beaten by 17 hundredths of a second . She finished the Olympic giant slalom in eighth position and the slalom in tenth position. At her last major event, the 1985 World Championships in Bormio and Santa Caterina Valfurva , her best result was eleventh place in the slalom. In the combination she was eliminated in the second slalom run. In 1986 Charvátová ended her active racing career.
