Zoë Haas (born January 24, 1962 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Swiss ski racer .

biography

The Canadian- born Swiss was one of the best ski racers in the downhill , giant slalom and super-G disciplines for many years . In her career she was able to win two World Cup races: with start number 37 the downhill run from Puy Saint-Vincent (1984) and with start number 24 the Super-G from Lech (1988). The best result in the giant slalom is 2nd place: Berchtesgaden (1982) behind Christin Cooper .

Haas was unable to take part in world championships several times: in 1982 she sprained her ankle after falling over a hotel staircase, in 1985 she dislocated her shoulder in a training fall. Although she was eleventh in the Downhill on February 1, 1987, she had another incident while skiing, which meant that she could no longer contest the Super-G. In 1989 she was only used in giant slalom, but was eliminated. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary , she suffered a fall in training on February 16 for the downhill run, which was planned two days later (actually not held until February 19), in which she suffered a slight concussion and bruises all over her body. But she was able to recover until the Super-G on February 22nd and achieve rank 7.

At the 1991 World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm , she just missed the medal ranks in the Super-G as fourth. In her last World Cup race, the Super-G of Crans-Montana , she finished 3rd behind Carole Merle and Merete Fjeldavlie in March 1992 .

She became known to the general public because she had stuck a large sticker in the form of fried ice on her helmet. This should help them recognize their parents when watching races on television. In the later years of her career she did without it and replaced the fried egg with a "Zoe" lettering.

Zoë Haas works as a teacher at the vocational school in Stans.
