biography

Schild competed in her first FIS races at the age of 15 in December 2005. At the Austrian championships in 2006 in Lech am Arlberg at the end of March , she came third in the slalom and second in the combined ranking. In January 2007 she won her first FIS race and one month later celebrated her first international successes at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Jaca with a silver medal in giant slalom and a bronze medal in slalom. At the end of the season she again achieved second place in the combined rankings at the 2007 Austrian championships .

In the following 2007/08 season , Schild took part in the European Cup races for the first time and achieved her best placement with sixth place in the slalom in Lenggries . At the end of January she became Austrian youth champion in slalom, giant slalom and the combined ranking in Lackenhof am Ötscher . She celebrated her greatest success so far on February 28, 2008 at the Junior World Championships in Formigal , when she - surprisingly for many - won the gold medal in slalom. As a result, she was allowed to compete in the World Cup final on March 14, 2008 in Bormio , where she failed in the second slalom run.

Schild took her first World Cup points in her third World Cup race on December 29, 2008 in the night slalom on the Semmering with 24th place. In three further World Cup appearances in January 2009, however, she remained without a result. In the 2008/09 European Cup she achieved her best placings to date with two fourth places in giant slalom and was fifth in the discipline ranking. At the Junior World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in March 2009 , she narrowly missed defending her title and won the silver medal in slalom behind Denise Feierabend . Schild was unable to contest the last races of the season because she injured her ankle in a fall in the second round of the Junior World Championships giant slalom.

On November 30, 2009 she reached her first podium in the European Cup with third place in the Funäsdalen slalom . The first victory followed on January 29, 2010 at the giant slalom in Courchevel . With another podium in the slalom of La Molina , Schild won the slalom classification in the 2009/10 season and achieved fifth place in the overall standings with a total of ten top 10 placements. At the Junior World Championship in 2010 , she only reached 19th place in giant slalom, in slalom she was out. In the World Cup, she came to five races this winter, in which she remained without points. At the Austrian championships in Innerkrems in 2010 , she came second in the giant slalom.

After Schild had failed at the 2010/11 season opener in Sölden , she won World Cup points for the second time in the second race of the season, the Levi slalom on November 13, 2010 - for the first time since December 2008. Five weeks later she finished seventh in the slalom from Courchevel into the top 10 for the first time. From now on, Schild was able to score more points in the World Cup, although she only achieved another top 10 placement in a World Cup slalom in January 2013. With 6th place in the Flachau slalom on January 15, 2013, Schild achieved her best World Cup result to date and qualified for the home World Cup in Schladming , where she finished 12th. At the World Cup final in Lenzerheide she achieved a podium finish for the first time in her career as second.

In the 2013/14 season she reached further podium placements, on December 17, 2013 she was third in the Courchevel slalom for the first time together with her sister Marlies Schild on the podium of a World Cup race. With these achievements, she was able to qualify for the slalom team at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, where she was fourth after the first round in the decision. After two mixed seasons in the World Cup, she was able to build on earlier successes in the 2016/2017 season and consistently made it into the top ten. In March 2017 at the World Cup race in Squaw Valley , she achieved her first podium in slalom in three years with third place.

Schild drove very consistently in the 2017/18 season and was able to record her first podium finish of this winter with a third place in Killington in November. In the slalom in Flachau she only had to admit defeat to Mikaela Shiffrin , although she was in the lead after the first round. During the season she was able to place a total of six times in the top 5 and thus moved up into the first starting group in the slalom. The season was also successful in the giant slalom, with Schild taking 9th place in Lenzerheide, her best career result in the giant slalom World Cup. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she finished 7th in slalom.

At the opening of the 2019/20 season, she had a serious fall in the second round of the giant slalom World Cup race in Sölden on October 26, 2019 and tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee. She was operated on the same day in Innsbruck.
