Career

Like his siblings, Schild got into skiing through his parents. Both parents are ski instructors and the father is also a trainer at the Dienten ski club . In 1993 Schild became Austrian student champion in giant slalom and super-G in his age group Student I. In the same year he won the giant slalom of the Whistler Cup, which was held for the first time in the Canadian ski resort Whistler-Blackcomb . After reaching the age limit, he took part in FIS races from the 1995/1996 season . For a long time he was without a top ranking, but in January 1999 he celebrated his first victory in this category.

Schild made his first appearances in the European Cup in January 1998. He started regularly in this racing series from the 1999/2000 season and in the same winter achieved his first points and several top 20 placements. He was then nominated for the Junior World Championship in 2000 in the Canadian province of Québec , where he finished 14th in the downhill and 22nd in the giant slalom, but was eliminated in the slalom. Schild completed his most successful European Cup season in winter 2001/2002 . He was third in each of the downhill runs from Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Tignes and achieved seventh place in the European Cup downhill classification with two more top 10 results. In the following season 2002/2003 he drove in four European Cup races under the top ten, in addition to three descents in a giant slalom.

On December 17, 2003, Schild had a bad fall on the European Cup run from Ponte di Legno / Tonale . He suffered a torn cruciate ligament and had to take a break for the rest of the winter. When he came back the following winter, he was left without European Cup points. Schild ended his active career in 2005, took care of his sister Bernadette and completed a sports degree. He is the sporting director of the Schild Skiracing ski school .
