Population development

history

Dienten was first mentioned in 963. There was an iron mine in the Dienten area from the Middle Ages, which was not closed until 1864. The name of the place Dienten is derived from the Celtic word "Tuenta", which in turn comes from the former name of the border river between Pongau and Pinzgau, the "Rivulus torrens Tuontina".

The parish church in Dienten was first mentioned in a document in 1410. In the Gothic style it was built from tuff under the name “Church on the Bühel” . On June 12, 1505, its name was changed to "Church of St. Nicholas" after he had consecrated the house.

coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms:

“In a divided shield above in black a growing red-armored golden lion , in his right hand holding a silver ring with an oblique left arrowhead on it ; sheathed in red and silver below . "
