Dienten am Hochkönig (pronunciation in the local dialect: [ d̥ɛ̃ɐ̃ntn̩ ]) is a municipality with 736 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the state of Salzburg im Pinzgau ( Zell am See district ) in Austria .
geography
The community is located in Pinzgau in the Salzburger Land at the foot of the Hochkönig (2,943 m).
Community structure
Cadastral communities are (area 2016):
- Dienten (1,851.55 ha)
- Dientenbach (2,242.33 ha)
- Schwarzenbach (882.53 ha)
The only village is Dienten am Hochkönig. Districts are Berg, Bodenberg, Bründl, Dorf, Lipanger, Schattberg, Sonnberg and Schwarzenbach.
There used to be several localities in the municipality, namely

Until the end of 2002, the community belonged to the Taxenbach judicial district , then to the Saalfelden judicial district until June 2017 . On July 1, 2017, she was assigned to the judicial district of Zell am See .
Population development
history
Dienten was first mentioned in 963. There was an iron mine in the Dienten area from the Middle Ages, which was not closed until 1864. The name of the place Dienten is derived from the Celtic word "Tuenta", which in turn comes from the former name of the border river between Pongau and Pinzgau, the "Rivulus torrens Tuontina".
The parish church in Dienten was first mentioned in a document in 1410. In the Gothic style it was built from tuff under the name “Church on the Bühel” . On June 12, 1505, its name was changed to "Church of St. Nicholas" after he had consecrated the house.

The coat of arms goes back to the family coat of arms of the trade family Zach . They once lived on the Zachhof , which was first mentioned in 1407 in the village of Dorf.

Economy and Infrastructure
The place is an important summer resort and winter sports destination.
The Austrian Federal Forests have been operating the Dientenbach small hydropower plant with 4.6 MW output and 18,300 MWh annual production since 2011 , some of which is also located in the municipality of Lend .
Culture and sights
- The Gothic parish church of St. Nikolaus was consecrated to St. Nicholas in 1506 and received a baroque tower in 1685.
