Pinzgau grass mountains
Pinzgauer Grasberge is a name for the southernmost mountain ridge of the Kitzbühel Alps , including the Dientner Mountains in the Salzburg Slate Alps . They belong to the so-called greywacke zone .
location
Separated in the north by the Glemmtal - Dientner Sattel line and in the south by the Salzach valley , they are located in the middle of the eponymous Pinzgau .
Subdivision
The Pinzgauer Grasberge are divided into:
- Dienten mountains : Lend to Zell am See ( Saalach )
- Glemmtal Alps : Zell am See to Mittersill ( Pass Thurn )
- Kelchsauer Alpen (less common term) : Pass Thurn to Krimml ( Gerlospass )
Hiking trails
The Pinzgauer Grasberge offer numerous well-marked hiking trails with a wonderful view of the Hohe Tauern and the Kitzbühel Alps :
- Pinzgauer Walk , also known as the Pinzgauer Höhenweg : a 25 km long high path from the Schmittenhöhe near Zell am See ( 1965 m ) to the Bürglhütte ( 1699 m ) at the foot of the Gaißstein ( 2363 m ). From there down through the Mühlbachtal to Stuhlfelden or over the Rossweg Scharte and then down through the Burkbachtal to Mittersill .
geology
They mainly consist of Wildschönau slate or Pinzgauer phyllite and Innsbruck quartz phyllite.
Others
Mighty glaciers covered the Slate Alps during the Ice Age . The ice was 200 m thick over the Gerlos Pass , 2,100 m at Mittersill and 2,050 m at Saalfelden .
Hydrology
Since the rock is easily permeable to water, a rapid reaction after precipitation is always to be expected. Small mountain streams turn into raging rivers within minutes.
