biography

Marco Pfiffner comes from Mauren and starts for the Unterländer Wintersportverein (UWV).

Youth and European Cup

At 15 he competed in his first FIS races . A year later, in January 2011, he took part in the Junior World Championships in Crans-Montana and finished 43th and 54th in slalom and giant slalom. In two other JWM participations he reached a 22nd place in the slalom of Jasná 2014 as the best result. At the end of the season he won his first of five national championship titles in slalom. In January 2013 he started in the European Cup for the first time until he could win his first points, but three years passed. His personal best remained an 18th place for the coming winters, achieved in the Zell am See slalom in January 2016.

Major events and World Cup

A few weeks after his first Junior World Championship, Pfiffner also competed at the World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He was ranked 72nd in giant slalom and 53rd in slalom. Two years later he made slight improvements at the World Championships in Schladming . The Olympic Games in Sochi brought him his best results at major events with places 24 and 42 in his two main disciplines.

On January 24, 2016, he made his World Cup debut in the Kitzbühel slalom , but has never qualified for a second run in several other starts. At the state championships in March 2016, he was crowned Liechtenstein champion for the first time in both slalom and giant slalom. In the giant slalom, a 39th place was enough for him, more than 5.7 seconds behind race winner Christian Hirschbühl .

In his third participation in a world championship , he started in St. Moritz for the first time in four disciplines. 36th and 42nd in Super-G and Downhill, he finished 34th in the combination and achieved his best World Championship result with 26th place in the slalom. On January 12, 2018, he surprisingly won the European Cup combination in Saalbach . For his second Olympic Games in Pyeongchang he was selected as the flag bearer of the three-man Liechtenstein squad. In four races he stayed with a 25th slalom rank just above his previous top result from 2014.

In January 2020, Pfiffner achieved his first World Cup points with 29th place in the Lauberhorn combination.
