At the opening ceremony, the individual teams were led by a flag bearer from the ranks of their athletes or officials, who was determined either by their respective National Olympic Committee (NOK) or by the athletes themselves. At the closing ceremony, the flag bearers walked separately in front of all other athletes who formed a common field without distinguishing between nationalities.
sequence
The Greek team is traditionally given the place in the forefront, a special status that stems from the hosting of the ancient and first modern games in Greece . The host nation South Korea marched together with North Korea under the common Korean flag. The athletes from the other countries enter the stadium in alphabetical order in the language of the host nation, in this case Korean . This order corresponds to both the tradition and the statutes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Contrary to the alphabetical order, Israel stepped behind Italy rather than behind Iran because of its hostile relations with Iran.
