Suela mëhilli (* 28. January 1994 in Vlora ) is an Albanian alpine skier from the region around the Italian city of Mondovi .

Career

At the age of three, Mëhilli moved to Italy with her parents. There she started skiing. She contested her first international competitions in junior races in Sestriere, Italy, in December 2009. Early on, she specialized in slalom and giant slalom, but occasionally also competed in Super-G races. Until the end of 2013 she only competed in junior races at national level before traveling to the French Les Menuires for the first time in January 2014 for university runs . After finishing 21st in giant slalom and 24th in slalom, she took part in a senior FIS race in Le Sauze for the first time a few days later .

Four weeks later she started despite a lack of starts in the Alpine Ski World Cup with the help of a wildcard for their homeland Albania at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia's Sochi . Along with Erjon Tola, she was one of two Albanian starters and the first woman to take part in the winter games for Albania. Mëhilli started in the slalom and in the giant slalom - in the slalom she was disqualified, in the giant slalom she finished 60th.

After the games, she contested four FIS races in Pian del Frais and Prato Nevoso and achieved good top 20 placements. As a result, she also took part in various FIS races, junior races, Citizen races and national championships. In December 2016, she won three FIS races and the national championships in Erzurum ( Palandöken ), Turkey .

At the 2015 World Championships in Vail / Bever Creek and 2017 in St. Moritz , she started in giant slalom and slalom. In the giant slalom she came in 73rd place. two years later in 69th place, in slalom in 2015 in 63rd place, while she was disqualified in 2017.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she again competed in slalom and giant slalom. In the slalom, she was eliminated in the first run. In the giant slalom the day before, she had improved from 60th to 53rd place in the second run.
