Oleksandr Volodymyrowytsch Abramenko ( Ukrainian Олександр Володимирович Абраменко ; born May 4, 1988 in Pervomajskyj , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian freestyle skier . He starts in the aerials discipline (jumping).

Career

Abramenko started in Lenzerheide for the first time in the European Cup in March 2004 and finished sixth. At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Ruka in 2005 , he came in 25th place. He made his World Cup debut in January 2006 in Mont Gabriel and came in 18th. In his first Olympic participation in Turin in 2006 , he finished 27th. In March 2006 he won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Krasnoe Ozero . The following year he came in 14th place at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2007 in Madonna di Campiglio . In the 2007/08 season he reached his first podium finish in the World Cup with tenth place in Lake Placid . At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2009 in Inawashiro he was fifth. The following year he finished 24th at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . In the 2010/11 season he won two European Cups in Bukovel and thus achieved third place in the Aerials discipline. At the 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Deer Valley , he finished seventh.

In the 2011/12 season Abramenko reached his first podium finishes in the World Cup with third place in Voss and second place in Minsk and ended the season in seventh place in the Aerials World Cup. At the 2013 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Voss , he came in sixth. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he won his third European Cup victory in Ruka. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he came in sixth place. In the 2014/15 season he was in the top ten four times in four World Cup appearances. He achieved third place in Deer Valley and won his first World Cup in Minsk. At the season highlight of the 2015 Freestyle Skiing World Championships on Kreischberg , he was tenth. He finished the season in sixth place in the Aerials World Cup. In the following 2015/16 season, he took third place twice and second place once in the World Cup. He decided the Aerials World Cup for himself, and he also finished sixth in the overall World Cup.

Due to injury, Abramenko missed the entire 2016/17 season. In the 2017/18 World Cup season , he achieved three top 10 placings, including a second place in Lake Placid. This resulted in sixth place in the World Cup ranking. Somewhat surprisingly, he won the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . A year later, the silver medal followed at the 2019 World Cup in Park City .
