Pervomajskyj ( Ukrainian Первомайський ; Russian Первомайский Pervomaiski ) is the fifth largest city in the Ukrainian Oblast of Kharkiv and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with about 30,000 inhabitants (2019).
The name of the city means May Day (from the Russian Pervoye Maja ), International Labor Day. Chym-Prom, one of the largest chemical factories in Ukraine, is located near the city.

Pervomajskyj lies in the middle of the Raion Pervomajskyj in the Kharkiv Oblast, 86 km south of the Oblast center Kharkiv on the railway line Moscow - Simferopol .
For the municipality nor the village had until 1994 next to the city Pervomaiskyi Syvash (Ukrainian Сиваш ), today it is only the unofficial name of the former local area. The size of the municipality is a total of 30.8 km².
history
As a supply station for the railway called Likhachevo in 1869 on the newly built Kursk –Charkiw– Sevastopol railway line , the village was renamed Pervomajskyj in 1952. The place was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from October 20, 1941 to September 16, 1943 . Construction of a chemical plant began in 1964. Since 1965 Pervomayskyi district center has had the status of a town since 1991 and the status of a town of regional importance since 1992.

The Pervomajskyj district administered from Pervomajskyj has an area of 1,194 km² and a population of 19,879 inhabitants. The population density in the sparsely populated Rajon is 17 inhabitants per km².
