Derhatschi ( Ukrainian Дергачі ; Russian Дергачи Dergatschi ) is a city in eastern Ukraine and the administrative center of the raion of the same name in Kharkiv Oblast with about 18,000 inhabitants (2019) on an area of 137.7 km².
geography
Derhatschi lies on the banks of the Lopan , a 96 km long left tributary of the Udy , 12 km northwest of the Kharkiv Oblast center and 36 km northeast of Ljubotyn .
In addition to Derhatschi, the municipality also includes the villages:
- Bilaschi (Ukrainian Білаші ); about 80 inhabitants

- Jemzi (Ukrainian Ємці ); about 140 inhabitants

history
Today's Derhatschi was founded by Cossacks around 1660 . The first mention of the settlement comes from 1689 in connection with the attack by the Crimean Tatars . In 1923 the village became the administrative center of the newly established Rajons.
The place was occupied twice by Wehrmacht troops: from October 22, 1941 to February 13, 1943 (478 days) and from March 10, 1943 to August 19, 1943 (162 days). In 1943 the village of Derkachi (Ukrainian Деркачі ) was renamed Derhatschi and received city status in 1977.
