Iryna Leonidiwna Taranenko-Terelja ( Ukrainian Ірина Леонідівна Тараненко-Тереля ; born March 31, 1966 in Derhatschi ) is a former Ukrainian cross-country skier .

Career

Taranenko-Terelja had her first international success at the 1991 Winter Universiade in Sapporo . There she won the bronze medal over 15 km freestyle and the silver medal over 10 km. She had her debut in the World Cup in January 1992 in Kawgolowo , which she finished classically in seventh place over 15 km. The next day she was third there with the season. Her best placement at her first World Championships in February 1993 in Falun was ninth in the 30 km freestyle. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , she took 29th place over 5 km classic, 27th place over 15 km freestyle and 20th place over 30 km classic and in pursuit and the following year at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay placed 26th in the pursuit, 23rd place over 15 km classic and 16th place over 5 km classic. In the 1995/96 season she came in the points in all 16 World Cup appearances. She achieved seven top ten placements and achieved her best overall result at the end of the season with ninth place in the overall World Cup. Her best results in the following year at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim were 11th place over 30 km classic and tenth place with the relay.

In the 1997/98 season Taranenko-Terelja came in 12 individual World Cup starts, ten times under the top ten and thus again reached ninth place in the overall World Cup. In addition, she was eighth in the long distance World Cup and seventh in the sprint world cup. At the season highlight, the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , she came ninth in the relay. In the individual races there she ran on the 11th place over 5 km classic, on the eighth place over 30 km freestyle and in each case on the fourth place in the pursuit and over 15 km classic. After two tenth places in Muonio and Davos and sixth place in Seefeld in Tirol at the beginning of the 1998/99 season, she had her greatest international success at the 1999 Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau am Dachstein . There she won after seventh place over 5 km classic, the bronze medal in the pursuit. This third place was also her best individual result in the World Cup. In addition, she finished there in 13th place over 15 km freestyle, sixth place with the relay and fifth place over 30 km classic. She finished the season in 12th place in the overall World Cup. In the following season she reached with three top ten results, 19th place in the overall World Cup. In the following years she mostly achieved placements in the midfield. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti she took 38th place over 15 km classic, 15th place in the skiathlon and tenth place with the relay and at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme, 36th place in the skiathlon and 35th place 3rd place in the 15 km mass start race. Her best result at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City was tenth place in the skiathlon. She ran her 139th and last individual World Cup race in November 2003 in Kuusamo , which she finished classically in 74th place over 10 km.
