Staryj Mertschyk (Ukrainian Старий Мерчи ; Russian Старый Мерчик / Stary Merchik ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Oblast of Kharkiv with around 1,800 inhabitants (2015).

The village on the banks of the Merchyk ( Мерчик ), a 43 km long tributary of the Merla ( Мерла ), was founded in 1665, has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1938 and is the center of the 80.43 km² settlement council of the same name within the Walky district .

The municipality also includes the villages Dobropillja ( Добропілля ), Zolochivske ( Золочівське ) and Michurinske ( Мічурінське ) as well as the settlements Hasowe ( Газове ) and Prywoksalne ( Привокwoksalne ).

Staryj Mertschyk is located 24 km northeast of the district center Walky and about 40 km west of the Oblast center Kharkiv on the territorial road T-21-06 north of the trunk road M 03 / E 40 .
