Petschenihy ( Ukrainian Печеніги ; Russian Печенеги Petschenegi ) is an urban-type settlement in the east of Ukraine and the administrative center of the same name Rajons in the Kharkiv Oblast with about 5,400 inhabitants (2015).
geography
Petschenihy is located on the right bank of the Donets , which is dammed up to the over 86 km² Petschenihy reservoir , 50 km east of the Oblast center of Kharkiv .
In addition to Petschenihy, the settlement council also includes the villages:
- Kyziwka (Ukrainian Кицівка ); about 330 inhabitants
- Novokomsomolske (Ukrainian Новокомсомольське ); about 350 inhabitants
- Pyatnytske (Ukrainian П'ятницьке ); about 250 inhabitants
history
Petschenihy was first mentioned in 1654. In 1923 the village became the administrative center of the newly founded Rajons. In 1957, Petschenihy received urban-type settlement status.
