Walky (Ukrainian Ukrainian Валки ; Russian Валки Walki ) is a city in Ukraine and the administrative center of the raion of the same name in the western Kharkiv Oblast with about 9,300 inhabitants (2015).
geography
Walky located on the banks of the river Mscha (Ukrainian Мжа ), a 77-km long tributary of the Donets . The Kharkiv Oblast Center can be reached in 54 km northeast and Poltava in 91 km southwest via the M 03 / E 40 road .
history
The place was founded in 1646. In April 1780 the place received the status of a city for the first time. In the meantime, Walky lost its town charter, which it received again in 1938. In the 19th century, the city was the administrative center of Ujesd Walky in Kharkov Governorate . From October 19, 1941 to mid-September 1943, the city was occupied by Wehrmacht troops.

Walky is the administrative center of Walky Rajon, founded in 1923 . It has an area of 1010.5 km², a population of around 32,200 inhabitants and a population density of 32 inhabitants per km². It borders the Poltava Oblast in the southwest .
