Andrei Fyodorowitsch Pavlovsky

Andrei Fedorovich Pawlowski ( Russian Андрей Фёдорович Павловский ; born November 8 . Jul / 19th November  1789 greg. In Walki , † January 12 jul. / 24. January  1857 greg. In Kharkov ) was a Ukrainian - Russian mathematician and university professor .

Life

Pavlovski, son of the impoverished landlord FK Pawlowski, attended the Valki elementary school and then from 1799-1806 the college of Kharkov. He then studied as a state scholarship holder at the physics and mathematics faculty of the new Imperial University of Kharkov . There his special abilities were noticed by Atanasije Stojković and TF Ossipowski . As early as 1810 he was teaching algebra , geometry , trigonometry and conic sections to students , as well as arithmetic and geometry to civil servants . He was one of the first Russian scholars at Kharkov University, where foreign lecturers predominated at that time . In 1813 he obtained his master's degree .

In 1815 Pawlowski became an adjunct at the chair for pure mathematics . In 1819 he became an associate professor and in 1826 a full professor. In the 1820s he gave Jean-François Callet seven-figure logarithms out. In addition, after the establishment of the university council, he was secretary of the university council (1828–1829), librarian of the university library (1830–1837) and student inspector (1833–1835). In 1837 he became rector of Kharkov University as successor to WS Komlischinski . After a year in office, AW Kunitsyn took over the office. On behalf of the university, Pawlowski spent a lot of time in various places in the region to expand the school system. In 1826, he spent eight months in the Don Cossacks - Oblast . In 1849 he retired. In 1850 he became an honorary member of the Kharkov University Council.

At the end of the 1880s, Pavlovski's son Fyodor Andrejewitsch Pawlowski donated the A. F. Pavlovsky Prize for Mathematics to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Kharkov.
