On August 12, 2000, Han took part in a World Cup competition for the first time in Mount Buller and reached 16th place. In his first and second seasons he was only used sporadically. At the 2002 Winter Olympics , he jumped to 24th place. The breakthrough to the top of the world he made in the 2002/03 World Cup season with the first podium finish he achieved in Lake Placid .
In the 2004/05 World Cup season, Han came second twice and third once, placing him third in the World Cup ranking. Another podium followed in the 2005/06 season. He celebrated the greatest success of his career at the 2006 Winter Olympics when he unexpectedly won the gold medal and thus became the first Chinese Olympic champion at the Winter Games.
2006/07 Han achieved another podium in the World Cup. After winning the 2007 Asian Winter Games in Changchun , he won the gold medal again at the 2007 World Cup in Madonna di Campiglio . He had become Olympic champion and world champion without ever having won a World Cup competition. Also in the following 2007/08 season he narrowly missed a World Cup victory with three podium places.
The 2008/09 season had to be canceled due to an injury. With the exception of a fifth place in December 2009, there have been no top placements since then.
