The Stuttgart-Münster train station is located at 5.2 km of the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim-Kornwestheim railway line and is a rarely used train station in the urban area of ​​Stuttgart. The code in the directory of operations is TSM. From 1926 to 2000, the Münster – Cannstatt industrial railway, electrified with direct current, also had its starting point in Münster, making the station a system changing station between 1933 and 1963 .

history

In order to relieve the Stuttgart central station , the management of the Royal Württemberg State Railway decided to build a freight bypass railway . It should create a direct connection between the east and north runways . The Untertürkheim and Kornwestheim marshalling yards were located at the respective crossings . The only intermediate station for the time being was set up about halfway along the route, above the municipality of Münster am Neckar . It enabled train crossings on the only single-track route at that time.

After two and a half years of construction, operations on the bypass could be started on September 30, 1896. Passenger traffic was only permitted to a limited extent. The station building that still exists today is a Württemberg standard station of type IIIa, with a one-storey extension on the southern side. Service and waiting rooms were on the ground floor. There were two apartments for railway employees on the upper and attic floors. The goods shed next to the station building has also been preserved.

At the beginning of the 20th century, due to the rapidly increasing freight traffic, the extension of a second track was inevitable. The double-track northern line between Stuttgart and Zuffenhausen was also considered overloaded. So in 1903 plans arose to connect the Stuttgart main train station and the north train station with the Münster train station and to expand it into a goods collecting station. According to the opinion of experts at the time, this would save the state railway from having to expand the northern railway to Kornwestheim to four tracks. In addition to freight trains, long-distance trains should also be diverted via the Münster line. In January 1904, experts from the State Railways advised against this project.

Proponents of the Münster line revised their designs in 1906. But even the new proposal for a goods collection station near the existing station was not considered advantageous enough.

As a result of the incorporation of Münster into the city of Stuttgart on July 1, 1931, the station was given its current name Stuttgart-Münster on August 1, 1931. On June 1, 1933, electrical operation between Stuttgart-Untertürkheim and Kornwestheim began as part of the Stuttgart suburban traffic . Due to the lack of a connection to the Stuttgart main train station, the small station always remained meaningless for passenger traffic.

The station is served on weekdays by individual regional trains, only in the morning and afternoon. The trains stop on track 1, which is the only one with a platform, both in the direction of Kornwestheim and in the direction of Untertürkheim. The remaining tracks are available for passing trains or as storage space for freight wagons.

According to Deutsche Bahn AG, Münster station is in the lowest station category 7.

In the course of the Stuttgart 21 project, tracks are to be dismantled in Münster station, four sidings are to be built on the southeastern part of the facility, as well as an operating building. Critics complain that if the passenger transport service is expanded on the Schusterbahn, a second platform cannot be built.

The station is to be equipped with ETCS Level 2 with additional conventional Ks signaling . A new siding for the Fischer-Weilheim company is to be built in the east end of the station .
