Maxim Alexejewitsch Burow ( Russian Максим Алексеевич Буров ; born June 5, 1998 in Yaroslavl ) is a Russian freestyle skier . He starts in the aerials (jumping) discipline , his brother Ilja Burow practices the same sport. His greatest successes to date are winning the World Cup discipline rankings in the 2017/18 season and the 2019 World Championship title.

Career

Burow started for the first time in December 2012 in Ruka in the European Cup and finished 16th. He won the gold medal at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco . At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he won his first European Cup victory in Ruka. In the further course of the season he reached four podium finishes in the European Cup, including one third place, two second place as well as another victory, with which he decided the Aerials discipline ranking for himself. He made his debut in the World Cup on February 21, 2015 in Moscow , where he jumped to 12th place. He won the silver medal at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco.

In the 2015/16 season Burow came eighth in Moscow for the first time under the ten in the World Cup. He won another gold medal at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Minsk . In March 2016 he became the Russian aerials champion. After two European Cup victories in Ruka at the beginning of the 2016/17 season , he achieved his first World Cup podium finish with third place in Lake Placid . In March 2017 he jumped onto the podium again with third place at the World Cup in Moscow and came 11th at the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada . The following month he was fifth at the Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco. He finished the season in seventh place in the Aerials World Cup and in fifth place in the overall European Cup standings.

After three top 10 placings at the beginning of the 2017/18 season , Burow achieved his first World Cup victory on January 12, 2018 in Deer Valley . Eight days later he also won in Lake Placid . Together with four other top 10 placements, he secured victory in the Aerials discipline ranking. The following season he achieved two wins and a seventh place, fourth place in the Aerials World Cup. At the 2019 World Championships in Park City , he won the gold medal in the individual and the bronze medal in the team competition, which was held for the first time. At the beginning of March 2019, he won the gold medal at the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk . In the 2019/20 season he came third in the Aerials World Cup with five top ten finishes. He won second place in Shimao Lotus Mountain and his fifth World Cup victory at Deer Valley Resort .
