Ilja Alexejewitsch Burow ( Russian Илья Алексеевич Буров ; born November 13, 1991 in Yaroslavl ) is a Russian freestyle skier . He starts in the aerials (jumping) discipline, his brother Maxim Burow practices the same sport.

Career

Burow competed at the European Cup from 2009 to 2010. He made his debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in January 2011 in Mont Gabriel and finished in 20th place. At the following World Championships in 2011 in Deer Valley , he came in 16th place. In the 2011/12 season he achieved his first top 10 placements in the World Cup with ninth place in Mont Gabriel and two fourth places in Moscow and Voss . At the 2013 World Championships in Voss , he finished ninth. The following year he reached 16th place in his first Olympic participation in Sochi .

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Burow achieved his first World Cup podium with third place in Beijing . In the further course of the season he finished third in Lake Placid and second in Moscow. At the 2015 World Championships on Kreischberg , he finished fifth. He finished the season in 11th place in the overall World Cup and fourth in the Aerials World Cup. After two third places in the European Cup in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he finished in the top ten five times in the World Cup, including third place in Moscow and Minsk . At the end of the season he was fifth in the Aerials World Cup. Burow missed the 2016/17 season due to injury. In the 2017/18 season, a second place in Moscow was his best World Cup result. He won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
