Aljaksej Hennadijewitsch Hryschyn ( Belarus : Аляксей Генадзьевіч Грышын; born June 18, 1979 in Minsk ) is a Belarusian freestyle skier who specializes in the discipline of aerials (jumping). In 2001 he became world champion and 2010 Olympic champion.

biography

After two seasons in the European Cup, Hryschyn made his debut on December 16, 1997 in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup , where he jumped to fourth place in Piancavallo and immediately established himself among the world's best. He qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics , which resulted in an eighth place. The first podium followed on March 7, 1998 in Hasliberg . He celebrated his first two World Cup victories on September 11 and 12, 1999 in Mount Buller . In the discipline ranking of the 1999/2000 season, he had to admit defeat to Canadian Nicolas Fontaine by just eight points.

At the 2001 World Cup in Whistler , Hryschyn won the gold medal, ahead of his compatriot Dzmitryi Daschtschynski . The third World Cup victory followed at the end of the season. Again, he narrowly missed winning the discipline ranking. Another win came in the 2001/02 season. At the 2002 Winter Olympics , Hryschyn won the bronze medal behind the American Eric Bergoust and the Czech Aleš Valenta . In the 2002/03 season he remained without a win, but won the silver medal at the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley (the difference to the victorious Russian Dmitri Archipow was less than two points).

In the 2003/04 season Hryschyn won two World Cup competitions. He did not succeed in the following 2004/05 season, but he won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Cup in Ruka . At the 2006 Winter Olympics , he narrowly missed the medal ranks and finished fourth. In the 2005/06 World Cup season he achieved two podium places, in 2006/07 he was on the podium once. On the other hand, he was never better than 7th in winter 2007/08.

In December 2008, Hryschyn managed to win another World Cup after four and a half years. However, his performance fell significantly as a result. Although he achieved a podium again in the 2009/10 season, he was not one of the favorites before the 2010 Winter Olympics . At the Olympic jumping in Cypress Mountain , he showed his best performance in a long time and unexpectedly won the gold medal. After an almost three-year break from competition, he returned to the World Cup at the beginning of 2013 and achieved two third places in the 2013/14 World Cup season.
