Josef Burger (politician)

Josef Burger (born July 3, 1900 in Ewattingen , † November 16, 1972 in Bonndorf in the Black Forest ) was a German farmer and politician ( ZENTRUM / BCSV / CDU ).

The Catholic Josef Burger was born on July 3, 1900 in Ewattingen. Having the local elementary school had attended, he learned at the school of agriculture Waldshut the profession of farmer . He then worked on his father's farm, but at the age of 14 he was drafted into military service, which he served until the end of the First World War in 1918. When he married in 1930, he took over his father's farm. From 1926 to 1933, Burger was publicly active in the German Center Party . He was also drafted into military service from 1939 to the end of May 1940 during the Second World War .

After the war in 1946/47, Burger took up political activities in the parliamentary group of the Baden Christian Social People's Party (BCSV) in the committee of the Baden Consultative State Assembly and became a member of the Baden State Constituent Assembly . He was also elected to the local council of Ewattingen and in November 1946 to the district council of the Neustadt district assembly. After the incorporation of the BCSV into the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), he continued to be politically active for this party, and in December 1948 he was elected mayor of Ewattingen by a large majority. From 1947 until the state of Baden-Württemberg was founded in 1952, he was a member of the Baden state parliament in the first (extended) legislative period of his party. Then he was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for the first three terms from 1952 to 1964.

Burger died on November 16, 1972 in Bonndorf in the Black Forest. He had four children. In 1964 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services .
