The 11th Freestyle Skiing World Championships took place from March 17th to 20th, 2005 in Ruka , Finland .

The attractiveness of the Freestyle Skiing World Championships has been increased with the addition of the new halfpipe and ski cross competitions . While the halfpipe is best known from snowboarding , ski cross was relatively unknown in Europe until four years ago , although the sport boomed under the name of skier cross in the USA. The FIS has meanwhile recognized the trend and has been organizing its own World Cup tour since the 2002/03 season . With the first World Championships as part of the Freestyle Skiing World Championship, the new trend sport experienced its greatest climax to date.

Around 300 athletes from 30 nations started in the five disciplines. Since the first Freestyle World Championships in Tignes in 1986, the biggest championships of this sport have taken place in Ruka .
