Stanley Hayer (born July 19, 1973 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian - Czech skier. He was initially an alpine skier and then switched to ski cross when he was just under 30 .

biography

Alpine skiing

Hayer, whose parents immigrated to Canada from what was then Czechoslovakia , began his career in the early 1990s as an alpine skier. In contrast to many other Canadian skiers of that time, Hayer was not a downhill skier , but a specialist in slalom . In the 1994/95 and 1997/98 seasons he won the slalom classification of the Nor-Am Cup . From 1994 to 1996 he was Canadian champion in this discipline three times in a row , and in 1994 also in the combination . In the Alpine Ski World Cup he reached the points several times in the 1994/95 season , for the first time in Tignes in December 1994 with rank 24. Two months later he was twelfth in Furano , the best slalom World Cup result of his career. The following seasons were far less successful: he rarely made it into the top 30 in the World Cup and lost his place in the Canadian squad.

Hayer then switched to the Czech Ski Association after the 1999 season. Here too there were initially no successes, but in the 2001/02 season he achieved some good results, including sixth place in the classic combination in Wengen . At the Olympic Games in 2002 he was a member of the Czech team and was 15th in slalom and 10th in combination. This season, Hayer was also the Czech slalom champion . In 2005 he ended his alpine skiing career.

Stanley Hayer took part in the Alpine World Ski Championships five times: in the Sierra Nevada in 1996 , in Sestriere in 1997 and in Vail in 1999 for the Canadian Association, in 2001 in St. Anton and in 2003 in St. Moritz for the Czech Republic. His best World Cup result was 16th in the Vail Slalom.

Ski cross

While Stanley Hayer was still driving slalom races for the Czech association, he already competed in ski cross . In his second World Cup season in 2004/05 he was second on the podium four times and came third in the overall standings. In the summer of 2007, Hayer moved back to the Canadian Association and was third overall again the following season . He has achieved a total of twelve podium places so far, and he is still missing a World Cup victory.

Nor the Czech Republic Stanley Hayer was in the Freestyle World Championships 2005 in Ruka and 2007 in Madonna di Campiglio at the start and won the silver medal in 2007. Outside of the competition system of the International Ski Federation FIS , Hayer has already won races. His greatest success here was winning the SkierX competition at the Winter X Games 2009 .
