Emily Cook (born July 1, 1979 in Boston ) is an American freestyle skier . She specializes in the aerials (jumping) discipline.

biography

Cook learned to ski at the age of four and began freestyle ski jumping at the age of 14; in her youth she was also an artistic gymnast. From 1995 she first took part in the Nor-Am Cup, the North American continental championship. She made her debut in the World Cup on January 13, 1997 in Lake Placid , where she reached 13th place. At the Junior World Championships in 1999 in Jyväskylä , she won the bronze medal. The first podium in a World Cup competition she achieved on January 6, 2001 with third place in Deer Valley . Shortly before the 2002 Winter Olympics , to which she had qualified, she suffered a severe foot injury that forced her to take a break of over two years.

Cook only started again in January 2005, but was able to keep up with the world's best with several top 10 placements. In the following season she was again on the podium, and she also took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. She achieved her first World Cup victory on March 1, 2008 in Moscow , in the same year she won the first national championship title. In the winter of 2009/10 Cook was twice third in the World Cup, at the 2009 World Cup she just missed a medal in fourth. In 2010 the second Olympic participation and the second championship title followed. On February 12, 2011 she was able to celebrate her second World Cup victory in Moscow. Another win followed towards the end of the 2012/13 season.

Cook is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
