biography
On January 20, 2001 Li made his debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup and reached 15th place in Whistler . She achieved her first podium on September 8, 2001, when she was second in Mount Buller, Australia . Another podium and fifth place at the 2002 Winter Olympics followed in the 2001/02 season . Li finally established himself at the top of the world and reached a podium four times in the 2002/03 season. After three more podium places in the 2003/04 season, she achieved her first World Cup victory on February 28, 2004 in Špindlerův Mlýn .
The 2004/05 season was dominated by Li almost at will. She won six of twelve World Cup competitions and was on the podium five more times. Not only did she decide the Aerials discipline ranking for herself, but also the overall World Cup. At the final World Cup in 2005 in Ruka , she narrowly prevailed against the Swiss Evelyne Leu and won the gold medal. Another three World Cup victories came in the 2005/06 season. At the highlight of the season, the 2006 Winter Olympics , she won the silver medal behind Leu.
As in the previous season, Li did not take part in all World Cup competitions in 2006/07, but she won two times in her five appearances and achieved three podium places. She also won the gold medal at the 2007 Winter Asian Games in Changchun . At the 2007 World Championships in Madonna di Campiglio , she was the first female athlete to successfully defend the world title. In the 2007/08 season there was one win and three more podium places.
After a somewhat subdued start at the beginning of the 2008/09 season, Li was able to improve and won a world cup competition. At the Universiade held in Harbin she was also the best jumper, but only five athletes took part in this competition. Two weeks later she was able to win the gold medal for the third time in a row at the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro . With two wins and three further podium places, Li decided in the 2009/10 season both the discipline ranking and the overall World Cup for himself. She was considered the favorite for the Olympic victory, but had to admit defeat to the Australian Lydia Lassila in Cypress Mountain near Vancouver and be satisfied with the silver medal.
Li then took a break from competition for over two years. She returned to the World Cup in 2013 and immediately established herself at the top again. With two wins and a further podium, she secured the discipline classification for the third time in the 2013/14 season, while she just missed a medal in fourth at the 2014 Winter Olympics .
