Cheng Shuang ( Chinese  程 爽 , born February 11, 1987 in Jilin ) is a Chinese freestyle skier . She specializes in the aerials (jumping) discipline. In 2011 she became world champion, in the 2010/11 World Cup season she won the discipline ranking.

biography

Cheng made her debut in the World Cup on September 6, 2003 at Mount Buller , where she immediately finished ninth. The best result in their first season was a fourth place on Mont Tremblant . She achieved her first podium on January 14, 2005, when she was third in Lake Placid . A week later she won the world cup competition in Fernie . At the 2005 World Cup , she could not meet the high expectations and only jumped to 24th place.

Although Cheng achieved two more podium places in the World Cup in the 2005/06 season, she was unable to qualify for the Olympic Games due to the strong competition within the team. In 2007 she also failed to qualify for the World Championship, which came too late to finish on the podium at the end of the season. In the 2007-08 World Cup season, Cheng was third twice. In the winter of 2008/09, two second and one third place in World Cup competitions followed, plus the silver medal at the Winter Universiade and a sixth place at the 2009 World Cup .

In 2010, Cheng was once again second in a world cup competition and placed seventh at the 2010 Winter Olympics . After the 2010/11 season had started well with a second and two third places, she achieved her second World Cup victory on January 29, 2011 in Calgary - just over six years after the first. A week later, she celebrated the greatest success of her career by winning the gold medal at the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley . At the end of the season she was also the winner of the Aerials discipline of the World Cup. In the 2011/12 World Cup season, Cheng was second five times, each time defeated by Xu Mengtao , and third twice. This was enough for second place in the discipline ranking.
