Markus Wittner (born March 2, 1973 in Kufstein ) is a former Austrian freestyle skier . He specialized in the discipline of ski cross .

biography

Wittner made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on November 30, 2002. In the first Ski Cross World Cup race in history, he finished third behind Tomáš Kraus and Isidor Grüner . Another third place followed in January 2003 in Laax , so that he finally took third place in the discipline classification. In 2004 and 2005 he achieved several top 10 placements, but missed the podium each time. In the winter of 2005/06 Wittner was twice third in the World Cup.

After he had to pause in 2007 due to a knee injury, Wittner returned to the World Cup in 2008. On January 10, 2009, he achieved a podium finish for the last time. In 2010 Wittner was able to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games , at the Olympic race in Cypress Mountain he finished 15th. On March 28, 2010 Wittner ended his career in Kreischberg by winning the Austrian championships.

Wittner runs a fitness and massage studio in his home town of Söll . He also works as a trainer for the Austrian national ski cross team.
