On December 19, 1999, Guo took part in Whistler for the first time in a World Cup competition and reached 19th place. She made her first top ten on Sunday River 13 months later . Her best result so far she reached the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley , where she was fifth. As a result, Guo regularly jumped into the top ten, but there was no podium for the time being. She achieved one for the first time on February 5, 2005, when she won the World Cup competition in her hometown of Shenyang . The 2004/05 season she finished third in the discipline, plus she won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Cup in Ruka, Finland .
After she won a second World Cup competition in Deer Valley at the beginning of 2006, Guo was one of the favorites before the 2006 Winter Olympics . At the Olympic competition held in Sauze d'Oulx , she was in the lead after the first round. But on the second jump she fell and fell back to sixth place; the gold medal was ultimately won by Evelyne Leu from Switzerland . In the following two seasons, Guo remained at the top of the world, even if there were no more wins.
