Roman Hofer (born May 26, 1976 ) is a former Austrian freestyle skier . He specialized in the discipline of ski cross .

biography

At the beginning of his sports career, Hofer was an alpine ski racer , but no major successes were achieved. He switched to ski cross and made his debut on November 30, 2002 in the Freestyle World Cup . At the first Ski Cross World Cup race in history in Tignes , he finished 12th, which also meant winning the first World Cup points. In the following 2003/04 season, Hofer established himself at the top of the world. On January 18, 2004, he achieved his first podium finish in second place in Laax . With two more podium places, he finally took 3rd place in the discipline ranking.

In the 2004/05 season Hofer was three times in the top ten in the World Cup. The 2005/06 season was more successful for him. He won the Austrian ski cross championships, which were held for the first time, and won a world cup race for the only time on March 12, 2006 in the Sierra Nevada . He finished second in the ski cross discipline and third in the overall standings. In the winter of 2006/07 Hofer only competed once in the World Cup. At the 2007 World Cup in Madonna di Campiglio , he just missed a medal in fourth and then retired from top-class sport.
