Natko Zrnčić-Dim [ ˈnatkɔ ˈzrntʃitɕ ˈdim ] (born March 7, 1986 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian ski racer . He competes in the World Cup in all disciplines with the exception of giant slalom, but is particularly successful in combinations . His greatest achievement is winning a bronze medal at the 2009 World Cup .

biography

Zrnčić-Dim competed in FIS races for the first time in November 2001, and from December 2003 he was in action at the European Cup races. He made his World Cup debut on December 13, 2004 at the Sestriere slalom . Until the beginning of 2008, he achieved World Cup points exclusively in combination , for the first time in December 2005 with 24th place in Val-d'Isère . At the 2006 Winter Olympics he competed in four disciplines and achieved the best result in 25th place in the giant slalom.

The combination developed into Zrnčić-Dim's specialty. In the 2007/08 season he was 13th in Beaver Creek and on January 11, 2018 in Wengen , he achieved a top 10 placement for the first time in ninth place. A week later, he reached 18th place on the Hahnenkamm run on the Streif in Kitzbühel . The first World Cup podium succeeded Zrnčić-Dim on February 3, 2008 when he finished the super combination of Val-d'Isère in third place. He also came third on January 25, 2009 at the Hahnenkamm Combination in Kitzbühel. At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère, he first achieved a 19th place in the downhill - his best ever World Championship result. After finishing sixth in the combined descent, he used the good starting situation and finally won the bronze medal in the super combined, relegating Swiss Silvan Zurbriggen to fourth place by a hundredth of a second.

Third place in the super combination of Beaver Creek was Zrncic-Dim's best World Cup result in the 2009/10 season . With tenth place in the Hahnenkamm run in Kitzbühel, he also achieved his only top ten result in a special discipline. In the overall and discipline World Cups, he was able to improve further compared to previous years. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he took part in all five competitions and achieved 19th place in slalom as the best result. On January 30, 2011, Zrnčić-Dim achieved his best World Cup result when he finished second in the Super Combined from Chamonix and, together with the winner Ivica Kostelić, achieved the first Croatian double victory in the history of the Alpine Ski World Cup. Two weeks later he finished eighth in this discipline at the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

After four years in which Zrnčić-Dim had reached the podium in one World Cup race, he was again without a podium for the first time in the 2011/12 season . His best result of the season was fifth in the super combined from Wengen. On December 1, 2012, he suffered injuries to his left shoulder in a crash in the Super-G at Beaver Creek. After an operation, he had to take a break for the rest of the season. In the 2013/14 season he was only three times in the points. But there was one outlier among them when he finished third in the super combination of Wengen. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he competed in four disciplines, with 10th place in the super combined being his best result.

The performance curve pointed down from 2014 and Zrnčić-Dim hardly achieved sufficient results in the World Cup. On December 1, 2016, he fell badly while training for the downhill run from Val-d'Isère and suffered a cruciate ligament rupture on his left knee, which meant the premature end of the season. In all World Cup appearances in the 2017/18 season , he missed the points. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he was the flag bearer of Croatia during the opening ceremony. Zrnčić-Dim has not been a member of the Croatian ski team since April 2018. Nevertheless, he took part in the 2019 World Cup in Åre .
