Mika Poutala

Mika Poutala (born June 20, 1983 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish speed skater who started his career as an all-rounder and now mainly runs on the short distances.

Mika Poutala made his World Cup debut in March 2002 in Inzell . It took more than three years for the Finn to finish at the top of the world for the first time in December 2005 (5th place over 500 meters). The day after this success he was able to celebrate his first World Cup victory over 100 meters. The 100 meters should also become his parade route, here he was able to achieve all of his three podium places so far. In the overall World Cup over this route, he finished second behind Yūya Oikawa in the 2005/06 season .

Poutala started over 1000 meters (26th) and 500 meters (22nd) at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin . Since 2003 he has participated in several world and European championships in sprint and individual routes. So far he has never been in the top 10 there, his best placement was a 13th place over 500 meters at the individual distance world championships in 2005 in Inzell. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Poutala achieved a good 5th place in the 500m competition.

Poutala has won the Finnish championship eight times, nine times runner-up and five times third.
