Sophia Ralli ( Greek Σοφία Ράλλη , born March 4, 1988 in Naoussa , Central Macedonia ) is a Greek ski racer . The nine-time Greek champion specializes in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom and has already taken part in several world championships and the Olympic Games .
biography
Sophia Ralli comes from Naoussa in Central Macedonia and starts for her home club. Through her participation in the Olympic Games in 2010 , 2014 and 2018 , her hometown has been continuously represented at the Winter Olympic Games since 1964. Ralli is a graduate of Sports Science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki .
At the age of 15 she competed in her first FIS races . She achieved the first of 32 victories so far in 2006 in a giant slalom in Greece. In January 2005, she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Valais , but did not get above ranks 42 and 45. A year later she secured her first of four Greek championship titles in the giant slalom in Florina . On January 21, 2007, she made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Cortina , but was unable to qualify for the second round at her only start to date. She finished her only Junior World Championship in Flachau with 65th place in the giant slalom.
After winning her first of five national championship titles in slalom in March 2008, she took part in a major event for the first time at the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère . In four other World Championships she was unable to reach places 40 and 46 in slalom and giant slalom. A year later she played her first Olympic Games in Vancouver . The 38th slalom rank remained her best result in this discipline. When she took part in Pyeongchang for the third time in 2018 , she opened the invasion of nations as the Greek flag bearer and achieved her best giant slalom placement with rank 52.
