Adam Lamhamedi ( Arabic آدم المحمدي, DMG Ādam al-Muḥammadī ; * April 22, 1995 in Québec , Canada ) is a Canadian- Moroccan ski racer .

biography

Lamhamedi was born and raised in Canada. He learned to ski at the age of four. In December 2010 he first took part in FIS races , initially starting for Canada. In autumn 2011 he decided to represent Morocco, his father's homeland, in the future. At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , he won the gold medal in the Super-G discipline . This makes him the first African athlete to win an Olympic medal in a winter sport.

Lamhamedi achieved the first podium in an FIS race in February 2012, and the first appearances in the Nor-Am Cup followed in December of the same year. With two further podium places in FIS races, he qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics , where he competed in giant slalom and slalom.
