Tomas Kaukėnas (born May 1, 1990 in Ignalina , Lithuania ) is a Lithuanian biathlete .
Career
Tomas Kaukėnas first started in 2006 in junior competitions of the European Cup (later IBU Cup). The first major event was the 2007 Junior World Championships in Martell , where the Lithuanian was 20th in the individual, 60th in the sprint and 14th in the relay. Later in the year he took part in the junior competitions of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Otepää , where he was 27th in the sprint and 28th in the pursuit in cross-country competitions, 22nd in the sprint and 17th in the pursuit on roller skis . This was followed by participation in the Junior World Championships 2008 in Ruhpolding . Kaukėnas was used in all four races and was 45th in the individual, 43rd in the sprint, 31st in the pursuit and 14th with the Lithuanian relay. In Nové Město na Moravě followed only a little later the participation in the junior competitions of the Biathlon European Championships 2008 , where he was 37th of the individual, 46th of the sprint and 32nd of the pursuit. In Canmore , Kaukėnas competed for the third time at a Junior World Championship and reached 33rd place in the individual, eighth in the sprint, four in the pursuit and six in the relay competition. With this, Kaukėnas achieved some of the best international performances by a Lithuanian. In Oberhof , participation in the Summer World Championships followed again later in the year . In cross-country he finished 29th in the sprint and seventh in the pursuit, on roller skis he was ninth and 12th. The next highlight was the 2010 Junior World Championships in Torsby . Kaukėnas was 21st in the individual, 31st in the sprint race, 23rd in the pursuit and 14th in relay. He also took part in the Junior European Championship for the second time in Otepää , where the Lithuanian was 34th in the individual, eighth in the sprint and 22nd in the pursuit. For the relay race he was used by the men. Also in summer he took part in the world championship in Duszniki-Zdrój again . There were only competitions on roller skis where he was ninth in the sprint and sixth in the pursuit and with the relay. At the IBU Summer Cup 2010 he was second in the sprint and third in the pursuit in the junior races in Nové Město on roller skis. In 2011, the competitions in Nové Město Kaukėnas' became the fifth Junior World Championships. After finishing 47th in the individual, he again achieved good results with eighth in the sprint and eleven in the pursuit.
In 2008 Kaukėnas made his debut in the men's IBU Cup in Obertilliach and finished 90th in his first sprint race. He won his first points later in the season as 33rd of an individual in Altenberg . In 2011 he was able to achieve his best result so far in the racing series with 14th place in an individual in Osrblie . In the biathlon world cup , Kaukėnas started in Ruhpolding for the first time in 2009 and finished 100th in a sprint. He was used several times in the following season in the World Cup. In Oberhof he achieved his best individual result so far in the sprint with 94th place and his best relay result with Karolis Zlatkauskas , Mindaugas Kovoliunas and Rokas Suslavicius with 18th place. At the 2010 European Biathlon Championships , he was used for the men's relay race. With Kovoliunas, Karol Dombrovski and Zlatkauskas he was 16. At the Biathlon World Championships 2011 in Khanty-Mansiysk , he surprisingly qualified 60th in the sprint for the pursuit and finished 59th. In the individual it was 74th place after five shooting errors. In the 2011/2012 season , Kaukėnas ran with a 47th place in a sprint and a 52nd place in the following pursuer in Hochfilzen to his best World Cup results so far.
