Haralds Silovs (born April 7, 1986 in Riga ; also Heralds Silovs ) is a Latvian short tracker .

Before his fifteenth birthday in February 2001, Silovs took part in an international short track competition for the first time, at the Junior World Championship. There he did not get past the quarterfinals in any discipline. Even one year and two years later, also at the Junior World Championships, he was never able to achieve a better placement and was mostly eliminated after the first run. In addition to the Junior World Championship, Silovs also took part in the European Championship and the World Championship in 2003 , but here too he did not survive the first round. At the 2004 World Cup , he reached the quarter-finals over 1500 meters, but was disqualified there.

As one of the few Latvian short trackers with international class, he was nominated for the second World Cup of the 2004/05 season in China at the end of October 2004. There he advanced to the semi-finals on the 1500 m distance, but was eliminated there in fifth. He was also able to repeat this success at the next World Cup and now narrowly missed the final as third. He confirmed this upward trend at the 2005 European Championship , where he also had to end his race in the 1,500 meter semifinals. At the last season's World Cup in Slovakia, he also made it into the semi-finals for the first time over 1000 meters. At the 2005 World Cup, he was again able to reach the semi-finals over 1500 meters.

In the World Cups of the 2005/06 season he no longer made it to the semi-finals, and at the 2006 European and World Cup , he missed the leap into the semi-finals. In April 2006, however, he set the current Latvian record over the 500 meters in 42.641 seconds, and over the other distances, Silovs was able to undercut all national records by the end of 2007. In the 2006/07 World Cup, Silovs achieved his best results to date. In two finals, he was fifth over 1500 meters and third over 1000 meters, which was his only podium finish to date. He also reached the final once at the European Championships in 2007 , but was disqualified over 1000 meters. However, he did not achieve a top 10 placement at the World Cup.

The 2007/08 season ended unsuccessfully for Silovs in the World Cup, as he was only ninth as the best result, but he was European champion by a clear margin ahead of the Dutchman Niels Kerstholt in Ventspils, Latvia . At the European Championships he also won two gold medals and one silver medal on the individual routes, for which points were awarded that were added to the overall result. At the World Cup, however, he was unsuccessful. In the Short Track World Cup 2008/09 Silovs started with a tenth place as the best result.

In addition to the short track, Silovs also competed internationally for the first time in the long distance, i.e. in speed skating, in August 2007 and 2008 . At the Summer Classics in Calgary he took part quite successfully with a second place over 3000 meters in 2008. He also set all Latvian records again, so that in November 2008 he held all national bests in both short track and speed skating.

Haralds Silovs studies economics and management at the University of Ventspils, where he has the opportunity to train for his sport at the same time. Before the European Championship in 2008, which he won, Silovs was a member of the international training group of the German coach Jeroen Otter .
