Mialitiana "Mia" Clerc (born November 16, 2001 in Ambohitrimanjaka , Ambohidratrimo ) is a Malagasy - French ski racer . She mainly starts in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom and represented her country of origin at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .

biography

Mialitiana was born near Antananarivo , the capital of Madagascar , where she initially lived with five older brothers and two sisters. At the age of one and a half years, she and her sisters were by a French couple adopted . She then grew up in a sports-loving family in the Haute-Savoie department and started skiing when she was three. She competed in her first races when she was nine and is now starting for the Magland ski club . While still in contact with her biological family , she takes distance learning at the French National Distance Learning Center (CNED).

With a view to participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she traveled to Madagascar in June 2017 to renew her passport . As a result, she contested several races in South Africa , in which she consistently finished in the top ten. Already in August she achieved the FIS points required for Olympic qualification with a second place in an FIS race . After good results in the South American Cup , Clerc made her World Cup debut on December 19, 2017 in the giant slalom in Courchevel . At the games in South Korea , she was only the second athlete to represent her country in alpine skiing - after Mathieu Razanakolona in Turin in 2006 - and finished 47th and 48th in slalom and giant slalom.
