Mathieu Razanakolona

Mathieu Razanakolona (born August 2, 1986 ) is a Canadian-Malagasy ski racer. In 2006 in Turin he was the first winter sportsman to compete for Madagascar at the Olympic Games.

Razanakolona was born to a Canadian mother and a Malagasy father and grew up in Canada. He started skiing as a child.

Together with his brother Philippe he founded the non-profit project rAzAlpin.org . The stage of the 2006 Winter Olympics was to be used to bring her father's home country into the limelight of the world and to collect donations for development projects.

Since December 2004 Razanakolona has been participating regularly in the FIS races held in Canada . In January 2006 he made his debut in the Ski World Cup . He received a wild card for the Winter Olympics from the International Ski Federation (FIS) . In Turin he started in slalom and giant slalom. In the slalom, however, he was eliminated in the first run after a goal error. In the giant slalom, he reached 39th place, 31.43 seconds behind Olympic champion Benjamin Raich .

Razanakolona is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
