Eike Lehmann (born May 19, 1940 in Breslau ; † January 14, 2019 in Lübeck ) was a German shipbuilding engineer and university professor .

Life

Lehmann was President of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) from January 2004 to May 2007 . His self-declared goal as VDI President was to improve the training system for engineers. He has taught and researched since 1979 at the University of Hanover and since 1983 at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg in the field of "ship engineering and calculations". Lehmann made great contributions to the historiography of shipbuilding as an engineering science in general and ship strength in particular; the latter is also applicable to other disciplines, such as B. structural mechanics, of considerable relevance.

Lehmann was chairman of the University Council of Rostock University (term of office 2004–2008).

He was chairman of the Shipbuilding Society and from 1995 to 2001 he worked in business as a member of the board of the Germanischer Lloyd classification society .

Lisa from Lübeck

On a voluntary basis, Lehmann was particularly involved in the Gesellschaft Weltkulturgut Hansestadt Lübeck eV (non-profit), whose work he significantly shaped for many years and from 2008 until his death as its first chairman. The largest project of this association was and is the construction and operation of the Lisa von Lübeck ; For this purpose, a shipyard that still exists today was set up on the northern wall peninsula of Lübeck's old town . He died on January 14, 2019 at the age of 78.
