biography

Simon Breitfuss comes from St. Leonhard in Pitztal . His father trained the offspring of the Argentine Ski Association for years , which is why Simon traveled to South America several times as a child . To study sports he emigrated to La Paz , where he happened to come into contact with the Bolivian Ski Association. In the almost six years it took to be granted citizenship, Breitfuss said he hardly ever skied. He lives in his Tyrolean homeland in the winter months and in La Paz in the summer half-year. Depending on the season, the training takes place in Chile or Tyrol.

Before his naturalization, Breitfuss only competed in Citizen races, with his last appearance in February 2010. On December 7th, 2015 he started for Bolivia in an FIS giant slalom for the first time and finished 80th, over 12 seconds behind. After his European Cup debut in the same winter, he competed in the South American Cup in summer 2016 . His best results so far in international competitions were achieved on August 8, 2016 in the FIS giant slalom at Cerro Catedral and one day later in the SA Cup slalom in Antillanca , where he each finished seventh.

On October 23, 2016, Breitfuss made his World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Sölden . After that he regularly took part in giant slaloms and slaloms, but has never been able to qualify for the second round. Due to the FIS points rule, he is always one of the last to leave the start house. In February 2017 he took part in the World Ski Championships in St. Moritz . He was the first athlete since Scott Saunders-Sánchez to represent Bolivia at the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1982. At the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , he competed in all five individual races and, with the exception of the combination, where he was eliminated in slalom, always classified between 30th and 40th place. His 32nd slalom rank marked the best result of a Bolivian at the Winter Olympics across all sports.
