List of flag bearers for the 2012 Summer Olympics
The list of flag bearers for the 2012 Olympic Games includes the flag bearers for both the opening ceremony on July 27, 2012 and the closing ceremony on August 12, 2012.
When the nations marched in, athletes from all participating countries moved into the London Olympic Stadium . At the opening ceremony, the individual teams were led by a flag bearer from the ranks of their athletes or officials, who was determined either by their respective National Olympic Committee (NOK) or by the athletes themselves. Modern British music was played during the invasion . At the closing ceremony, the flag bearers walked separately in front of all other athletes who formed a common field without distinguishing between nationalities.
sequence
The Greek team has traditionally been given the front seat, a special status that stems from the hosting of the ancient and first modern games in Greece . The host nation Great Britain , under whose name the United Kingdom appears at the Games, marched last. The other countries entered the stadium in alphabetical order in the language of the host nation, in this case English . This order corresponds to both the tradition and the statutes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
While most of the nations invaded under their short form of the state name , some marched under a more formal or under an alternative name, which in some cases is justified because of political or legal disputes. Macedonia came because of the name dispute with Greece as F ormer Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to below F. The athletes of the Republic of China , commonly known as Taiwan, entered as a compromise under the name " Chinese Taipei " and the accompanying Olympic flag. However, they were T out, so they do not with the athletes of the People's Republic of China usually only as, China announced clashed under C as People's Republic of C hina occurred. The participants from the Republic of the Congo rallied under C ongo (Congo), while those from the Democratic Republic of the Congo ( D emocratic Republic of the Congo) marched in with their full names under D. Similarly, it was in South Korea procedures that under K as Republic of K orea moved in (Republic of Korea), while North Korea under D as D emocratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held feeder. Iran , Micronesia , Moldova , Laos , Brunei and the United States marched under their name in formal long form one, respectively Islamic Republic of I ran (Islamic Republic of Iran), Federated States of M icronesia (Federated States of Micronesia), Republic of M oldova (Moldova), L ao people's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), B runei Darussalam and U nited States of America (USA). For the first time in many years, the Libyan athletes appeared under their short form Libya ( L ibya) , in stark contrast to the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) at the time of the regime of Muammar al-Gaddafi .
Invasion of the nations at the opening ceremony
Each team was led by a standard bearer, accompanied by a child to the right and a young woman to the left. While the child held a large copper petal in her hands, the woman carried a sign with the name of the participating nation in English (on the right as viewed from the camera position). The copper petal was engraved with the country's name and was later used to build a large cauldron for the Olympic torch . The voluntary shield bearers wore a dress that was entirely provided with photos of volunteers from these games, including those who were not selected for the mission. Upon arriving at a replica of the Glastonbury Tor hill , each national flag was raised individually.
The Netherlands Antilles could not take part in the parade separately as its NOK was no longer recognized by the IOC following the dissolution of the overseas territory in 2010. Instead, the three Antilles residents marched in as independent Olympic participants under the Olympic flag - together with a marathon runner from South Sudan , whose state, which had become independent in 2011, did not yet have an Olympic committee at the time of the opening ceremony.
The first ever female Olympic athletes from Saudi Arabia and Brunei caused a stir .
The predominantly yellow-clad Indian team was led by an ominous woman who wore a red top and blue pants. In India , the incident drew media attention, but London officials downplayed the concern because she, Madhura Nagendra, was a volunteer at the opening ceremony who was being checked by security. Some media outlets later identified her as Madhura Honey, a communications and media graduate from Christ College, Bangalore .
