Kurt Couto

Kurt Leonel da Rocha Couto , Kurt Couto for short (born May 14, 1985 in Maputo ), is a Mozambican athlete and hurdler .

Couto moved to neighboring South Africa at the age of 17 to train there. In the meantime, Couto has specialized in the discipline of the 400-meter hurdles .

Couto has already participated in the Summer Olympics four times ( 2004 , 2008 , 2012 and 2016 ). In 2004, 2008 and 2012, Couto was the flag bearer of the Mozambican delegation during the opening ceremonies.

Couto won a gold medal at the 2006 Lusophonie Games in Macau . At the Pan-African Games 2011 , which took place in Maputo, Couto won a silver medal. At the 2012 Olympics, Couto reached the semifinals and thus a 22nd place, but then retired. Nevertheless, the Mozambican sports association voted him athlete of the year 2012. At the 2016 Olympic Games, Couto was eliminated in the first round with a time of 49.74 seconds.

Kurt Couto set his personal best with 46.50 seconds in Windhoek in 2007.
