Career

Feng Tianwei became the Chinese youth champion in 2002. In 2003 she started for China at the World Junior Circuits in Wellington. In 2005 she left China and played in the Japanese professional league. In 2007 she moved to Singapore and took citizenship a year later. Since 2007 she has been playing internationally under the flag of Singapore, this year she qualified for the first time for the Grand Finals and by the end of the year already reached number 36 in the world rankings. In 2008 she took part in the world championship for the first time , where she won silver with the team won, and moved up to the top 10 in the world rankings in May . Also at her first Olympic Games in the same year she won silver with Singapore, in the singles she reached the quarter-finals. At the World Cup , she came in third after beating, among other things, the world number two Guo Yue , and at the Grand Finals in the semi-finals. In 2009 Feng took part in her first individual World Cup, where she reached the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles.

She celebrated several successes in 2010: At the World Team Championship , she won the gold medal with the Singapore team after a surprising victory over China , beating Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen in the final . In the world rankings she moved up to second place, and she won another gold medal at the end of the year at the individual Grand Finals. In 2012 she qualified for participation in the Olympic Games via the world rankings, even if she temporarily dropped to 10th place in the course of the year. In these she won the bronze medal in both individual and team competitions, with Singapore she was also vice world champion again , and in doubles with Yu Mengyu she won the Grand Finals. Together they also won bronze at the 2013 World Cup , in singles they reached the quarter-finals for the third time in a row and won bronze at the World Cup again . In 2014 she made it to the semi-finals of both the Team World Championships and the doubles competition of the Grand Finals .

Another bronze medal in doubles followed in 2015 with Yu Mengyu . For the Grand Finals, where Feng was eliminated in the first round for the first time since 2007, they did not qualify. In 2016 she took part in her third Olympic Games , where she was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Ai Fukuhara and reached 4th place with the team after losing to China and Japan. At the World Cup she won bronze for the third time. In the same year, Feng Tianwei had to end her career in Singapore's national team involuntarily to make way for younger players.

At the beginning of 2017, she was back in third place in the world rankings and thus not higher than since 2011. In doubles with Yu Mengyu, she won bronze at the World Championships for the third time in a row , and in singles she made it to the quarter-finals for the fifth time in a row. In December, however, she fell back to 11th place in the world rankings and was not in the top 10 for the first time since 2008. At the 2018 Team World Cup , she was again part of the Singaporean team, but they were already in the second round against the Ukraine eliminated, at the 2019 World Cup they did not reach the quarter-finals for the first time. In October she won bronze at the World Cup for the fourth time .
