The table tennis - World Cup 2019 took place for the men in his 40th host from November 29 to 1 December for the women in his 23 host from 18 to 20 October at the Chinese Chengdu instead.

mode

20 athletes took part in each competition. The eight best-placed participants in the world rankings were automatically qualified for the main round, which was held in the knockout system , the remaining twelve participants were divided into four groups of three athletes each, two of which qualified for the main round. The semi-final losers played a game for third place. Each game was played in best-of-seven mode and thus consisted of four to seven sets.

qualification

The reigning world champion was automatically qualified. Otherwise qualification took place via the Asian Cup, the Europe Top 16 Cup , the African Cup, the Oceania Cup and the Panam Cup. The first three players in the Asian and Europe Cups, the two first-placed players in the Panam Cup and the first-placed players in the other tournaments were automatically qualified. The participants in the remaining places were determined by comparing the players who had not yet qualified top in the respective Continental Cups, with the player with the best world ranking position taking the next place at the time of the invitation in August. In this way, eight more starting places were awarded, the host association would have received another place if none of its players had qualified, and the ITTF also awarded a wildcard .

A maximum of two players per association could take part. As both the first and second place finishers in the Asian Cup and the reigning world champions came from China, the fourth place finishers in the Asian Cup also received a guaranteed starting place.
