Elizabeta Samara (born April 15, 1989 in Constanța ) is a Romanian table tennis player . She won silver at the World Cup 2012 and in all disciplines - singles, doubles, mixed and team - at least once the European championship.
Career
youth
Already in her youth, Elizabeta Samara achieved numerous successes. She won nine gold and five silver medals at the European Youth Championships:
- 2002 Cadets: Silver in doubles with Daniela Dodean
- 2003 Cadets: Gold in doubles with Galia Dvorak (Spain) and with the team
- 2004 Cadets: Gold in doubles with Marharyta Pessozka (Ukraine) and with the team
- 2005 Juniors: silver in singles (behind Daniela Dodean), gold in doubles with Daniela Dodean
- 2006 Juniors: silver in singles, doubles with Daniela Dodean and mixed with Abdel-Kader Salifou (France), gold with the team
- 2007 Juniors: Gold in singles, doubles with Ekaterina Kolodyazhnaya (Russia) and mixed with Paul Drinkhall (England)
There are also ten first places and four second places in world youth tournaments ( World Junior Circuit ). At the 2007 World Youth Championships, she reached the final with the team.
Adults
In 2003 Samara was in doubles with Alex. Chiramentli Romanian champion in doubles. She was internationally active in the adult sector for the first time in 2004, at her first European championship , for which she has always been nominated since 2005, she immediately became European champion in 2005 with the women's team. She took part in her first world championship in 2006 , with the team she came in 17th place. From this year until 2012 she was also Romanian champion in doubles with Daniela Dodean every time . In 2007 she was placed in the top 100 of the world rankings , reached the quarter-finals at the European Championships and the second round at the World Cup , which she only succeeded in doing again 10 years later. In the year she was able to take part in the Olympic Games , in which she was eliminated in the individual in the second round against Wiktoryja Paulowitsch and took seventh place with the team.
In doubles with Daniela Dodean, she won the Polish Open in 2008 and qualified for the Grand Finals, in which they reached the semi-finals. This year and the next, Samara was also the Romanian individual champion. She also won the title several times in mixed. In 2009 she was European champion in doubles with Dodean and took part in the Europe Top 12 for the first time, where she reached the quarter-finals and was eliminated from Lie Jie . At the European Championships in 2011 , Samara won silver in doubles and with the team, at the separately held mixed European championships she won the title with Andrei Filimon in 2011 and 2012 . In the world rankings she fell back to 52nd place in 2012, but made it to the round of 16 at the Olympic Games , and in her first World Cup participation she was the first European to reach the final and won silver. With Daniela Dodean, she was again European champion in doubles. In 2012, Elizabeta Samara also played for the club Fenerbahçe SK and took part in the World Tour Grand Finals for the first time, where she reached the quarter-finals. In January 2013 she moved up to 14th place in the world rankings.
Until 2015, she was able to qualify for the Grand Finals in individual singles, but was eliminated in the first round. In September 2014 she improved her record in the world rankings to 13th place, at the 2015 European Championships she won gold in singles for the first time and also silver with the team and doubles with Georgina Póta . In that year she became an honorary citizen of her hometown Constanța . In 2016 she took part in the Olympic Games for the third time , in 2017 she became European champion with the team for the first time since 2005 and reached the individual World Cup round of 16 for the first time since 2007. She came third in the Europe Top 16 in 2018, which was her first medal placement at the tournament. At EM and World Cup , however, she was eliminated in the first round. In the following year she was able to defend the European Championship with the team , at the European Games the team had won silver a few months earlier.
